Good morning all! I promise today's post will be quick. No exhaustive diatribe on some crazy issue that only me and a couple other people might really care about. *grin* Nope, today's post will just be a little analogy to consider, just a *little* food for thought, think of it more as a snack than a meal.

First off, the update on the running progress. No real 'progress' to report per se, but I did get out and run again this morning. Results:

Day 2:
Total Distance - 2 miles
Total Distance Ran - 1 mile

Nope, your eyes do not deceive you, those are the same results as Day 1. By the way, I should add, 'Total Distance' means total that I walk/ran, just thought I should clarify that. Anyway, hopefully actual progress to report on next time!

So, to my little nugget of thought today. Imagine if you will a scenario that goes a little something like this:

Doctor: "I am afraid I have some bad news for you, you have a terrible life threatening disease. If you act now we might be able to slow it's affects down and possibly cure it all together. If you don't, I am afraid you might not have much longer to live." (Cue dramatically sad music)

You: "You know what Doc? You are the 5th doctor I have visited who is trying to feed me that same line. I guess I need to find yet ANOTHER opinion."

Doctor: "Wait! You are telling me you already knew about this? How long? And why have you not done anything about it yet?!"

You: "You know why Doc? I don't believe the science behind your claims. I think you and all those other doctors are just trying to scare me into buying your expensive medicines and be submitted to your expensive procedures. I am sure you would love to make all kinds of money off of me."

Doctor: (aghast) "Wow, I can't believe you feel that way. And I really can't believe you are wasting time trying to find a doctor who will tell you this is no big deal and questioning the science behind our findings instead of taking actions to fix this. Each day that" (interrupted)

You: "Right, Right, 'each day that goes by with doing something about it is wasted and might bring me closer to death'. I have heard it all before. I just refuse to buy into this alarmist crap. This is just a normal cycle for my body. Some days I feel fine and some days I don't. Why, just yesterday I was out for a jog. How does that jive with your 'theory' that I have this horrible disease? Doesn't does it?"

Doctor: "You are going to have days you feel fine, but as time goes by they will be fewer and farther in between. You will slowly deteriorate until you become bed ridden. Of course, the choice is yours to do something about this or not. I am merely suggesting the right course of action you should take."

You: (getting up to leave) "Thanks Doc, but like I said, I am just going to keep on searching until I find a doctor who is not just looking to raid my wallet. *cough* I will be.. *cough* I will be just fine. *cough* *cough*"

Doctor: (with a sad expression of hopelessness) "Suit yourself. I wish you the best of luck"

AND..Curtain (hold for applause). So did ya get it? Wasn't too obscure of an analogy was it? For those of you who didn't I was setting up a scenario to compare certain people's thoughts and actions on climate change with an obviously over dramatic and totally made up personal story. (Yes, I will hold while you go back and reread. *whistles*)

Back? Make sense now? Well, no, it doesn't make sense to me either. The scenario is ridiculous because none of us given that news from our doctors would wait around to find the cause, or to find someone who would say it is not a big deal. We wouldn't take the fact that we felt good one day dismiss the notion that something was wrong inside us. We would act, and we would act fast. So, why oh why won't we act to curb climate change? Why are we not taking this just as seriously as we would the scenario above? Why has climate change become political and 'alarmist' and subject to ridicule? Our Earth (the only one we have that I know of) is sick and we need to act to help save her. At a minimum we need to act to stop hurting her as bad. There are plenty of other political divides to argue over, but if we don't take politics out of this debate and just all come together and act, there will not be a future in which to argue over anything. It at least wouldn't hurt to try and do something? Would it?

Thanks for reading...

LOVE this post! I am a faithful lightrail rider. Whaddya think about that? I still have yet to see "An Inconvienent Truth" but I am afraid it will just make me sick. I did see Gore on Oprah though and it is just heartbreaking. Thank you for taking the time to put this all out there.
