So as promised yesterday, one of the things I want to talk about this week is the scandal brewing at the moment over the recent actions of the Justice Department. Specifically, the scandal involves US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (you know, the guy who replaced that other creepy Attorney General, John Ashcroft!) and the firing of the 'Gonzales Eight'.

The first thing I find interesting about this particular scandal is how little it is being reported on by the 'liberal' mainstream media (MSM). You would think anything the MSM could get their hands on to further denigrate this administration would be reported ad nausea. Not so much actually. I know there are a lot of other scandals brewing (Libby, Walter Reed, Iraq's missing billions, and so on) so it may be hard to focus in on just one, but come on, a little coverage would be good! I just find myself constantly comparing the lack of coverage today of actual Bush scandals to the coverage a few years back of Clinton 'scandals' by this liberal MSM and am continually amazed.

So what exactly IS the scandal here? Well, if you were to believe Fox News crowd (and really, if you believe them, well...) there is no scandal here! Every President that comes in of a different political stripe than the one preceding him fires all US Attorneys. Bush simply left them all in place and selectively fired a few of them. On the surface it sounds like Bush might even be better than his predecessors. At least he didn't fire them all, right?

Well, it sure doesn't sound much like a scandal at first glimpse. The truth, however, is, well, a little 'Inconvenient'. The truth is, Bush would have been better served cleaning house when he came into office. It would have followed the previous pattern, no one would have questioned much, and they wouldn't be in the hot water they are in now. The truth is, Bush (working through Gonzales of course) two years ago decided to selectively fire US Attorneys who were either; A) not pursuing Democrats aggressively enough or B) pursuing Republicans too aggressively. The truth is, these eight Attorneys were targeted for political purposes. The truth is, the Justice Department is supposed to be above partisanship. The truth is, because of a sneaky little provision in the US Patriot Act, the President can name a successor to these fired Attorneys with out any Senate approval for an indefinite amount of time. The truth is, this administration continues to act like the mafia, taking out people who are not loyal and replacing them with people who are, all the while finding ways to subvert the law to do so. The truth is, well, scary..

Do some further research into this. Do a Google search for "gonzales eight" or "justice department scandal". The facts are out there, we can just no longer depend on the MSM to give them to us. Thanks for reading...
